CENTRAL FLORIDA'S LARGEST LAW FIRM EXPANDS THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PRACTICE
09.30.2008Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A., the largest law firm in Central Florida, is pleased to announce the addition of Jacqueline E. Hartt, Ph.D. and Angela M. Miller, J.D., to its Intellectual Property group, led by partner Thomas C. McThenia, Jr.
Over recent years, the need for businesses to protect their Intellectual Property rights has grown tremendously. It is now estimated that 80% of a company’s assets are intangible assets, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. “Protecting these assets not only gives a company a competitive edge over others in the marketplace,” says IP partner Tom McThenia, “but by building an intellectual property portfolio wherein these intangible assets are owned by the company, the company becomes more attractive, and thus more lucrative, to potential purchasers when ultimately offered for sale. The addition of Dr. Hartt and Ms. Miller to the intellectual property group enables our clients to protect and capitalize on these intangible assets.”
Dr. Hartt is a registered patent agent who received her undergraduate degree in physics and her Ph.D. in biophysics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Hartt worked in the areas of neutron and small-angle x-ray scattering. Her patent practice encompasses the fields of computer software, business methods, medical and surgical implements and methods, laser technology, chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical inventions. She previously practiced in an intellectual property law firm in patent prosecution and inventor counseling.
Ms. Miller is a registered patent attorney who is well-versed in a variety of intellectual property fields, including patents, trademarks and copyrights. She received her bachelor of science in biology from Stetson University, where she also minored in information technology, and received her Juris Doctor from Mercer University. Prior to joining Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A., Ms. Miller practiced in a boutique intellectual property law firm in the Southwest Florida area, where she prosecuted various types of patent applications, including those in the biological, chemical, mechanical, electrical, computer software and business method fields.
With the expansion of its intellectual property group, Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. provides a full range of intellectual property services to its clients, including patent and trademark prosecution and litigation, technology and Internet law, sports and entertainment law and intellectual property licensing.
Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. is a full service law firm that has served Florida businesses since 1969 in corporate, real estate, litigation, wealth management and related areas. Managing partner of the firm is William T. Dymond. The firm is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its founding by John F. Lowndes.
