Jon Gibbs, Alyson Hoffman Author Article on IP Audits for Orlando Inno

Jon Gibbs and Alyson Hoffman authored an article entitled “IP Audits: Assess and Optimize Your Intellectual Property” for Orlando Inno, a multi-media platform launched in partnership with the Orlando Business Journal that covers headlines focused on innovation, technology and Central Florida startups.

The article discusses the importance of an IP audit and how it can aid a company in determining whether it is managing its assets in compliance with intellectual property laws and optimizing protection, either through licensing or ownership, of any intellectual property that it uses.

Jon

Jon Gibbs is the co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Services Group and represents clients in a broad spectrum of intellectual property matters, including intellectual property protection, licensing, litigation, auditing and due diligence.


Jon counsels clients on brand management strategies, selection and clearance of trademarks and service marks, policing and enforcement issues and securing rights in proprietary discoveries and works through patent, copyright and trade secret protection.

He conducts due diligence investigations in connection with intellectual property transactions, negotiates and drafts intellectual property transfer and license agreements, and documents co-existence agreements.

Jon has litigated and defended matters involving claims of trademark infringement, trademark dilution, unfair competition, trade dress infringement, false advertising, copyright infringement, cybersquatting, patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation. He has handled numerous matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in addition to litigating domain name disputes under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).

He is also a general aviation pilot and a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain.

Alyson

Alyson C. Hoffman is an attorney in the Corporate, Business and Tax Department, working out of the firm's Orlando and Melbourne offices. She primarily focuses her practice on sophisticated estate planning and complex estate and trust administration.

Committed to knowing her clients personally and understanding their goals, Alyson provides valued support and guidance to ensure their needs are met and help them achieve peace of mind. She enjoys building and maintaining long-term relationships with new and existing clients based on trust and personal service. 

Prior to joining Lowndes, Alyson worked at a law firm in Bethesda, Maryland, where she handled a variety of complex matters related to probate and trust administration, elder law and estate planning for high-net-worth individuals. She also has experience representing restaurants and alcohol distributors in administrative hearings, beverage licensing and lobbying for various wholesalers.

Alyson earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Florida – Hume Honors College and her law degree, with a Certificate in Intellectual Property, from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. While in law school, she was recognized with Book Awards in both Advanced Trial Practice and Agency & Partnership. Alyson is also a Level 2 Sommelier under the United States Sommelier Association.

A Melbourne native, Alyson will be participating in the Leadership Brevard Class of 2022. She is active within the local community as a volunteer with Brevard Family Partnership and Friends of Children of Brevard County and as a member of 321 Millennials, an organization that is focused on building the community and economy within Florida's Space Coast. In her free time, Alyson enjoys yoga, dancing, cooking, boating and taking advantage of all the outdoor activities that Florida has to offer.
