Orlando, FL - Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. is pleased to announce that shareholder John Ruffier was elected as vice-chair of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) board of directors and will become the chair of the organization in 2018-2019. With over 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide, HRC is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. In this role, Ruffier oversees the organization's actions, including fiscal management and budget approval, and also assists in establishing the official policies that direct HRC. There are 32 members of the HRC board of directors who, in conjunction with the HRC Foundation Board of Directors (on which Ruffier served for the last 6 years), set policy and steer the strategic direction of the organization. Ruffier is the first person from the State of Florida to lead the national board.
As an attorney at the firm, Ruffier concentrates his legal practice on commercial real estate. As the firm's Senior Housing Group chair, he has helped companies built their senior living portfolio from the ground up across the nation. John also represents borrowers and lenders, making or modifying commercial loans and companies acquiring, developing or selling commercial real estate -- both in Florida and across the United States. He has represented businesses in a wide variety of real estate transactions, including restaurants, big box retail stores, office buildings, golf courses and, of course, senior living facilities.
